"Canadian 4WD Mag & Gear Centre Group Off-Road Challenge"

We signed up to try this new event. The competition was to start Friday July 1. We planned on leaving Thursday June 30 ( as it is an 11-12 hour drive) and figured we would have plenty of time to make it. Thursday morning, a few last things to be done to tweak on the new 433 BBC engine only to find that something was seriously wrong .It had no power . We booted over to Deltech , where they tried to figure out what the issue was.. By 3;00 am Friday morning, we called it quits, hit the sack and at 9;00 AM back at trying to fix the issue . The guys worked on it all day till about 8;30 PM Friday. They ripped the fuel injection off and put on a carb. The engine seemed to light up with the carb as they were doing some burn outs in the parking lot in first, second and third. By now, we figured it was too late as the first day of competition of this 2 day event was completed. Just about then we, got a call from Rob Bryce telling us that if we showed up they would still let us do the competition. We would just have to do all the events in one day instead the two days like everyone else. We decided we had to go. Packed up quickly and hit the road by 10;00 PM. We were soooooo tired but drove all night. Got to the Apex ski hill ( where the event was being held) by 11;00 AM on Sunday. Within 5 minutes of our arrival we were told , unload the truck , everyone is doing the rock crawl and you are competing with them. We could hardly stand up but had to go. The truck was not running at optimum performance as it needed more work. It was pretty cool though. An uphill large field of rocks. Decided that Robin will drive and Steven ( my 15 year old son ) would spot. I would have to say, the best run of the rock crawl was when WK and Cory were side by side all the way to the finish line. It looked awesome!!. The rest of the guys had finished their competition...... we had just started. We were then off to the obstacle course. A very cool obstacle course. Really liked how it was set up. Taradon on 52’s was also doing the obstacle course as he was allowed to do a remake due to some technical difficulties. Robin did okay in it. He was the only one to make one of the more difficult turns without breaking the ribbon but there were other turns that took more time.  Right after the obstacle course we had to do the tank trap. Now Rob Bryce told us that there was no way we would make it through as the course ....He said it was impassable as the course was so chewed up from Taradon's ( on I think 52's ) run. I guess those 52’s let you know where they have been…lol. It was  nasty , tight, full of trees, logs, deep.......I mean it was disgusting. Now that Rob Bryce had told Robin , he would not be able to make it , of course , Robin had to give it a go. He made it about 25% of the way through when he had to winch only to have the winch crap out on us . The 12000 lbs Warn was done. ( Can’t wait to get the Ramsey on ). Steven worked so hard as a spotter and did a great job!!!!!!! After the winch gave out......that pretty much was it for us then. Cory pulled us out ( Thanks !!!!) and we went back to camp. We decided not to do the hill climb. Wish we could have competed with everyone else throughout the two days instead of the 6 hours  we had. It would have been nice to see how the other trucks performed.  We were told they did great. The rock crawl was the only place we saw all competitors. Cory took first place over all. Congrats!!!!!!!. We took third. We hit the hay early that night. Next day we hit the road for the 12 hour drive back. Got home around 10;30 PM on Sunday. Looking back, we only slept 7 hours in a 61 hour time frame. Hey, you got to make it interesting, right? There is a lack of events as it is, and we felt we needed to support all fairly local events as much as possible. Showing up was the only thing we could do.

We enjoyed the event and hope that Can 4x4 and gear Centre do this again next year. Thanks to all who put it together

We’re now off to continue trying to figure out the issues with the engine……..The season has just begun .....
