"Fort Macleod Bog- July 28, 2001"

We would like to say a big THANK YOU to Clint for doing such a fantastic job
tuning the truck. It ran great!!!!.
Drove the 100 miles to Fort Macleod to have some fun in their bog race. The day
started slow. Racing was to begin at noon but ended up starting at one thirty
PM. The wind was horrendous. Had a hard time walking. Many spectators wore ski
goggles so they could see the race. I guess these veterans knew what to expect.
Thirty-one trucks showed in total. We were put in the X class which this time
included one guy with tractor tires. Very few bogs combine non-DOT with DOT
tires. This one did. Didn't like that. We knew our chances to take first place
just slimed right down. A TV reporter from Global news showed up and we ended up
doing an interview about the "Knight" for the six o'clock news.
Robin was the first one to go in our class. He made it to 127 feet. I was the
last and made it to 133 feet. It was thick and deep. It took some good chewing
and high rpms. Mot of the other classes made it to an average of 49 feet. No one
made it through the whole way. The tractor tires came in at 147 feet.
After the intermission we had our second run. This time it was my turn to go
first. They watered the pit and there was no sun so it didn't dry up at all. It
was still very thick. I floored it and gave it what I could. Broke through that
first wall of mud and made it to 167 feet this time. Towards the end of the run
I couldn't see a thing. All the windows were covered in mud so I opened my
window to see where I was. Not the best idea. I was still hammering on the
throttle and got a mud shower. So did the inside of the truck . I was completely
covered in mud. Was fun though. The tractor tires were next to go. I had broken
the first wall of mud so it was going to be better for the rest of the trucks.
He made it through the pit. Robin was last this time and in the perfect spot to
have a very good run as one truck had made it through already so he had a good
chance of going through with a better time. He flew off the starting line and
was doing nicely when the truck started stalling and bucking. He lost some good
wheel spin and ended the run at 176 feet. The truck died. He got pulled out. We
thought it was the fuel pump or maybe the relay. Checked the truck today and
found out that we had run out of gas. That was too bad. It would have been nice
to beat those tractor tires. Maybe next time :)
The Knight cam in second with Robin, I took third and the tractor tires were
first
The new cross-over steering worked great and the truck ran great.
