"Fort Macleod Mud Bog- Sept. 8 , 2001"

Went to the last Fort Macleod bog of this year yesterday. They changed the rules this time around as there were concerns by several people allowing tractor tires mixed with DOT tires. This time around we were put in the XXX class. If your engine has more than three mods from stock (i.e.-headers, not original cam etc) you were bumped up so naturally aspirated trucks were mixed with guys on the bottle. This was the first time we had to race against a rail car and nitrous. It was interesting. There were 14 trucks in total. I believe there were 6 or 7 trucks that ended up in the XXX class and one in the X class ( 44" tires). It was a hoot watching that rail car. Those things rip like crazy. Both Rob and I had two runs at it with the "Knight". Tim also came along with "Wolf359". There was a nasty hump in the first third of the pit, which concerned me a little. If I gave it everything I could I would certainly take air and maybe loose it. The rail car went first. What a trip watching it. Robin was second to in the line up. He had a fantastic run. He picked the right line and it seemed as he just floated over the mud. Excellent job. Al White did his run with his S-10 . I hopped in with Tim when it was his turn. I wanted to feel the pit and how his truck performed. Pretty good Got splattered with some good mud. It was fun but I like driving. Night crawler also had a beautiful go at it. I was next. I didn't hammer it, as I know I could have .I started digging into a hole. I was flagged but couldn't see the flagman as he was on the passenger's side and the windows were caked with mud so I kept trying. I was told that I dug a nasty hole by doing that. I say I added to the hole that Tim started :). Maybe the flagman should be on the driver's side. Dean was next and gave it his best shot (He also ran the X Class) Only three trucks made it through the pit. The rail car, Nightcrawler and Robin driving the Knight. The second run was a bit tougher as that hole we dug came into play. Oh well.
The only truck that made it through this time around was Nightcrawler.
Final placings were- Nightcrawler's first, Rusty with Hairy Canary (the rail car)- second and Robin with the Knight third. Hope to get the standings on the rest of the drivers later this week. Watched the figure eight races after the bog. Those are pretty cool.
Has a good time on a beautiful day.
The drive home was nasty. We drove into some very strong wind and almost ran out of gas. It took us over three hours to get back to Calgary. Once we were in Calgary Robin and Dave were getting to be, let's say funny. They were driving the crew cab pulling the knight and I was driving the motor home with the girls (Trish, Christine and Jennifer}. We were on Macleod Trail when I look over and Dave pulls a moon at us. I cracked up. Dave, you are lucky I didn't have my camera, as that pic would have been front and center :)

Here are my runs.
