"May Long '02"

May long- the weekend we’ve all been waiting for all winter –and a long winter to boot.

We rolled out  Friday 8;00 am. Met up with Wdave40 (Toy on 35’s) and we were to meet Shane( Toy on 35’s)  and Clint( Jeep on 35’s) in Cochrane. I’d have to say we never have a boring ride out. Rob was pulling the "Knight" and I was following with the motor home. Half way to Cochrane I watch the hood of the “Knight’ swing open and smash into the windshield. We pull over and yes, one toasted hood and windshield. Not even out on the trail and we have carnage already. Tie the hood down as best as we could (the whole thing was twisted badly) and carry on. Met up with the others and off to Waiparous we go. A big thanks to the Rocky Mountain Big Wheels  for their hospitality. Set up camp, Dave and the others went for a trail ride while we tried to fix the hood so it would be drivable. Used the come a long and were finally able to tie it down. After they came back, we wanted to go badly, so a bunch of us decided to check out Johnston’s mud pit . Took meadow Creek trail .When we made it there it was dark. Lots of carnage at the bog. It was deep and very thick and gooey. Watched and played a bit and ready to head back. As we’re driving back we loose the clutch ( Bent the rod and master cylinder seized) Oh yay, we have to drive back with no clutch. Relay for headlights went  so the only lights that seemed to work were the 5 ,150W beamers on top.  Then on the CB we hear Shane lost his front drive shaft, Dave is overheating and Clint had some u-join issues. Can’t believe we all broke down on the dirt road. Got back to camp about 1;00 am or so.

Saturday- we spent at camp all day. Did a parts run to Cochrane. The guys worked on the truck till 1;00 am only to find out that the parts we got were defective. Nice. They ended up rebuilding the old master cylinder. Steven, my 12 year old, thought he was Tom Mentz or something was  pulling cyclones with the quad on some snow. Chain broke ...plus- quad gone for the weekend.

Sunday-  and a few from the  RMBW headed out on a trail ride at 1;00 pm. Ken and Lisa ( Jeep open 38's) led on a trail that ended up on the other side of the bog. Don’t even know the name of this trail but it was a good trail with beautiful scenery. We could see the bog from the top and could see the crowds. As we got closer we could hear those engines just roaring through, Couldn’t wait to get there. Drove up to it by about 4;00 pm. Some heavy duty machinery playing that day. Wow. Loved to watch those guys. We went across the bog and tried this deeper hole and yes we got stuck. Just at that time , Neil showed up. He’s got a nice jeep on 44’s. He pulled us out. Watched a lot of very cool trucks play. One guy using his nitrous to get across. He blew a bead . Unbelievably there was a tire buster guy just waiting in the wings. They tried the ether method. Man, that’s loud. The rest of the gang tried going through the bog and let’s just say had a bit of a challenge on their hands :). We ended pulling a lot of stuck trucks out. They started calling us the bog AMA. At around 8;00 pm Ken and Lisa finished changing their axle and tried to get across the bog. They played a while but then were dead. No power. We winched them across and Ken proceeded to change the starter on their jeep. Geez, he's fast. After that was done we took Meadow Creek trail back. We wanted to avoid the 940- wouldn’t want to get a mud flap ticket ;) . Lots of RCMP with check stops this weekend. It was dark by the time we left.  It was like doing a different trail. In  the dark and backwards. Got back to camp by 11;00 or so . It was a great day- had lots of fun. Thanks to everyone . Can't wait for the next trip :)
